Wallisville Historian John Clay Dies at 74
Wallisville resident and historian John Clay died Friday night in a Channelview hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 74 and his family preserves services at Forrest Park Cemetery in Houston. Clay spent years researching Texas missions and forts and discovered the presidio San Austin de Ahumada site in Wallisville. He taught himself Spanish to study documents and maps and his work was featured in Baytown Sun History Highlights in October 1985.
