Official says highway funding uncertain

Milton Dietert, new District 12 engineer for the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation, told the Baytown Chamber of Commerce highways committee that funding from state and federal sources is a wait and see issue. District 12 covers Harris and Galveston counties. A proposed 1.5 cent sales tax and 5 cent gasoline tax could help, but they are being considered to offset potential immediate cuts in highway funding, as Senate action shifts money to the general revenue fund.
