Breakfast Monday For Workers United Fund Drive Kicks Off

Edge and Stith Receive Baytown Community Service Honors

Two Baytown seniors retired from Humble refinery after 35 plus years were honored Thursday with Community Service Awards by the Senior Citizens Club at St Mark's Methodist Church. Edge honored for veterans service work and Stith for Senior Citizens Club leadership. both active in multiple civic groups. Edge, born in Georgia and raised in Texas, served in World War I and helped organize Baytown VFW Post and Baytown American Legion Post. long involvement in VFW and Legion offices. Edge is a First Christian Church member, Goose Creek Mason lodge member since 1998, and Arabia Shrine Temple member in Houston. Stith noted for service with the Senior Citizens Club and broader civic work.

Rites Set Sunday For Baytonian 81

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Ellen Smith of 723 E Fayle Baytown mother of five Baytonians will be at 2 30 p m Sunday at Beech Creek Baptist Church in Spurger. She died Friday in a Pasadena hospital and had lived in Baytown 12 years. Burial will be in Beech Creek Cemetery. The Rev Paul Gallin will officiate. She is survived by six daughters and five sons, with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Henry Curtis of Wooster 21 year old night manager at a Houston Texaco station was released without charges after claiming self defense in the shooting death of 26 year old Tom Joe Johnson Johnson hailed from 35374 S Brentwood Houston and was shot at the Texaco station after his car ran dry Johnson's wife and mother were at the car Curtis said Johnson threatened him and approached he fired a warning shot then a second shot hitting Johnson in the chest Johnson died at Northshore Hospital Curtis said he carried the pistol due to a recent robbery at the station The case will be referred to Harris County grand jury without charges being filed
