The Robert E. Lee Brigadiers will star in a halftime show at Memorial Stadium to launch the United Fund drive. Bands and Baytown agencies will parade onto the field with about 20 Girl Scouts from Troop 1377 and local dignitaries. The Robert E. Lee Band will perform from 0:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a steel drum of selections and a precision drill culminating in a wedge diamond exit.

Mischer Bid For City Street Work Wins Approval
A bid of $59,495.70 from Walter M. Mischer Co of Houston for the third phase of Baytown street improvements was accepted by the city council. Mischer’s bid was the lowest among four, using a shell and sand mix. Phase III covers Gulf Street from Main to First, Gulf intersection rebuilds, storm sewers, and base resurfacing on Greenbriar and other streets. Completion will raise this year’s resurfacing to about nine and a half miles. The council discussed a proposed street assessment policy and Baytown’s participation program for paving.

Baytown police reported a quiet afternoon and night on Thursday with four arrests for drunkenness and peace disturbance. A white 1963 Ford Falcon owned by Andres Contreras was taken from the Humble Corral Gate lot between 7:10 a.m. and 4:05 p.m. The car was unlocked but the keys were missing. Nine feet of quarter inch water hose was taken from Magic Wand Car Wash.
