Baytown council public hearing on tax hike draws few residents
City council and staff attended a public hearing on a proposed 1.79 percent increase in property tax revenues, with only a handful of residents speaking. A second hearing is set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, followed by a final vote at 6 p.m. October 14. Using last year’s rate of 82 cents per $100, the average home tax rose from 453.80 to about 516.93 if the rate stays at 82 cents, or 507.86 at 80 cents.
