ExxonMobil Chemical plans a world scale facility at Baytown to produce 50 000 tons per year of SpectraSyn Elite mPAC high viscosity synthetic lubricant base stocks. College awarded $4 million STEM grant over five years

Lee College received Department of Education funding for the 2011 12 academic year through the Science Technology Engineering and Math program. More than $800 000 was awarded for 2011 12, with anticipated continuation for five years totaling $4 million. The STEM and Articulation Transformation Project aims to fund scholarships for local students and support athletics.

The Baytown Five case moves slowly as two defendants face potential trials this month over Kevin Jerome Powell's 2009 beating death at an apartment complex on Massey Tompkins Road. Baytown woman accused of stealing mom's life savings

A Baytown woman, Karen Voortmans, is accused of stealing her elderly mother Audrey Barnes's life savings while Barnes was in a La Porte nursing home. The alleged theft occurred from June 15, 2009, to February 23, 2011, the date Barnes revoked Voortmans power of attorney. As a result, Barnes lost private health insurance due to unpaid premiums and faces financial ruin.
