Ike drives many to outdoors lifestyle in Whispering Pines

Surviving Hurricane Ike Story From Curly the Horse

In Anahuac and across Chambers County, Curly the horse survived the Ike surge while other animals perished. Owner Tyler Fitzgerald, a Texas AgriLife agent, recalls taking three of six horses as floodwaters rose seven and a half feet. Surviving horses are spread, fences broken, and unclaimed animals await retrieval or aid at White's Park in Hankamer with a livestock staging point for feed and hay.
