Brown Kinship Links Pampa Pioneer to Book Series
A Texas philanthropist and Breath elder, Montagu Kingsmill Brown, 86, of Pampa died from injuries after a car crash. He funded the M.K. Brown Range Life Series published by the University of Texas Press, four volumes documenting early Panhandle history. His relative Douglas C. Banton, of 3401 Woodcrest, learned of his death last week. The series, part of Lee College Library, includes 6000 Miles of Fence and Twilight of the Range among others. In Wichita, a second jet airliner was chartered for Senator Barry Goldwater’s Republican campaign to handle reporter and staff overflow, as United Airlines 727 joined the operation, replacing a slower Convair backup.
