Chemical Firm Plans Appeal After Pollution Verdict

Garrett Tucker representing Nyolox Chemical Co plant manager Join Striss said an appeal will be filed after Striss was found guilty of polluting Great's Bayou and fined 119.40 by Justice Walter Queen following a five hour hearing. Testimony showed acid from a Jagoon mix entering Greens Bayou on August 31, with the Yagoon built to revive discharged acids. Dr. Walter A. Quebedeaux testified he saw acid water flowing into the bayou and brought a sample as evidence. Striss blamed heavy rains for the lagoon overflow, while a separate case against R. J. Koll of Diamond Alkalin was dismissed. A third case was postponed to October 12.

Harsig county grand jury may take further action in the Daisy Hatton abortion death as Justice of the Peace Walter Queen says an inquest verdict found murder in the Baytown woman's death at a motel on June 1. The district attorney’s office and the grand jury see no reason to reopen without new evidence after months of investigation and about a dozen witnesses. Autopsy indicated death by air bubbles in the brain from an abortion attempt.
