Baytown La Porte Tunnel transforms Baytown transit history
The Baytown La Porte Tunnel replaced the Morgan's Point Ferry, ending decades of limited, weather affected service. Begun 1950 with nine giant cylinders and a two lane tube, the tunnel linked Baytown to La Porte, boosted growth, and paved the way for broader highway expansion before a later eight lane Hartman bridge replacement.
