Assassination attempt injures Iraqi Governing Council member
Aquila al Hashimi, one of three women on the council, was critically wounded in a daytime attack in western Baghdad as gunmen pursued her car. She underwent surgery, with three guards wounded, before being moved to a U.S. hospital in Baghdad. Authorities blamed Baathists and Saddam loyalists for the shooting.
