Goose Creek district officials project a return to classes next week not before Wednesday. They will notify parents two days before opening. Final dates depend on power water sewer and sanitation service restoration to district buildings.

Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church in Baytown born 1844 endures hurricane Ike flooding and power loss. Members moved debris to the lot for collection while staff retrieved safe items from inside. Despite water damage and partial power, the church plans one service while day school needs relocation.
Mont Belvieu Mayor Nick Dixon says 75 percent of residents are back on as CenterPoint restores service. He praises the utility, notes ongoing debris cleanup, and warns Chambers County residents not to burn debris while a county contractor will collect heavy waste from edges of yards.
Assistant chief Bill Baylis says generator use risks back feeding power and CO poisoning. He recalls a garage exhaust incident, three Texans died from CO after Ike, and eleven firefighters were shocked in an electrical blaze. The department ran 300 to 400 calls with 24 hour shifts, returning to normal by midweek.
