Baytown Debris Clean Up Underway After Ike
Contractors from Bamaco Inc and DRC drive in from across the United States to clear debris in Baytown after Hurricane Ike. They report Phase One push completed in about three days with roughly 10,000 cubic yards cleared on their sides and a citywide total over 1 million cubic yards before. Red Cross shelter opens for Baytown Ike victims
After Hurricane Ike, an American Red Cross shelter at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown provides food and beds for stranded residents. About 130 cots, 40 used Thursday, volunteers run three shifts, with meals supplied by the ARC kitchen at the old K Mart building. The shelter has no closing date yet and may stay as long as needed.
