Taft Council mulls delay to review demolition appeal
Taft City Council benches action on the demolition of a condemned apartment complex to allow more time for a negotiated agreement between Cornerstone Woodridge Properties and Baytown owners. Attorney Robert Lowman offered to pause his presentations to seek terms while Chief Building Official Kevin Byal notes the counteroffer arrived just before the hearing. The council also moved to expedite purchases for Katrina evacuees and authorized an agreement with the Baytown Housing Authority to coordinate placements under FEMA and state procedures.
