Belgian Foreign Minister Paul Henri Spaak warned the consultative assembly in Strasbourg that the United States might abandon Europe as part of the fallout from recent European conferences. The report notes U S discussions with Britain and West Germany on rearmament and sovereignty, while France delays. Dulles, in Dexter New York, praised West Germany and urged continued pursuit of European unity and the EDC, despite French opposition.

Deer Park postpones free dog vaccination from Wednesday to next Friday at City Hall between 5 and 9 PM. City Council agrees to cover the city’s share under the county rabies program, costing about 5244 cents per dog.
Industrial shares surged to a new high for the period, led by gains in titanium and uranium linked issues. Guests will tour planes and installations for an educational and entertaining experience. The club will also issue 460 free movie tickets to youngsters under 12 at the Gay Theatre as part of the local program.
Funeral services for F J Dadaon, father of Mrs R Mills, will be in Tyler Sunday. Dodson was killed in an auto accident. Surviving is T V Dodson of 217 West Wright Blvd Baytown. Services will be held here at 2 pm Sunday.

Truman, sidelined by illness, questions GOP strategy as party leaders push for a united front against the Republican agenda in a two day rally.
SAN ANTONIO September 1 A court martial heard Cpt Claude F Batchelor recount how prisoners obtained marijuana while in captivity including growing it among tomatoes and smoking it during work details He said some Americans smoked it several times and that a Chinese camp rule discouraged it yet allowed it at times The testimony also covered a fellow prisoner Watson and the charges he faced for cooperating with captors during repatriation efforts
Raytown reports a sharp decrease in fire lashes during the first eight months of the year with property losses estimated at $5,944.06 versus $9,321.33 for the same period last year. August saw $714.95 in losses as children playing with matches and improper gasoline and cigarette use accounted for most fires.

Burnett 420 Murrill was released from Little Duke hospital Saturday with gratitude for the man and woman who waved his lifts. He was admitted unconscious after a knife slipped, severing a large artery in his leg while cutting material behind his garage. He walked into the garage, saw heavy bleeding, and called for help. Mrs. Orville Denham and Carl Lee aided, then rushed him to the hospital.
A Gulf of Mexico squall poised to spend its force could trigger a few more showers in South Central Texas and along the lower coast on Saturday. 24 hour rainfall included Browns ville 0.38, Corpus Christi 0.34, Galveston 0.61, Beaumont 0.30. Isolated activity expected in West and South Central Texas as mild conditions persist. Overnight lows ranged from 58 in Darhart to 77 in Brownsville and 8 in Galveston.
A Grand Jury witness admitted possible responsibility for illegal votes in an off election tied to the Barrett-Crosby Civic League. The probe centers on a poll box with 342 votes for Yarborough and Shivers, discrepancies in poll lists, and testimony from elderly voters and others about exemptions and voting assistance. The inquiry continues as investigators pursue irregularities.

A two car collision in La Porte Friday morning caused about 3400 in damage to the autos. James B Fing ing 31 of 609 South Idaho and Melvia C Sterry 52 of Shore Acres collided at West D and South Seeond after both cars skidded about 20 feet. No injuries or tickets were reported and damage to each car was about 3200.
Bulletin from Austin reports Dr. Tegan Wilson, president of the University of Texas, was named Saturday to assume duties formerly held by Chancellor James P. Hart. The appointment elevates Wilson to lead the Texas university system starting this fall.
