Baytown moves to own hotel on Bayland Island project
Deputy City Manager Ron Bottoms outlines a shift in the Bayland Island plan with the MDD to own the forthcoming full service Sheraton hotel as Garfield serves as developer. Cedar Trinity earlier proposed as hotel owner but the MDD will now own the hotel while Garfield remains developer. The city’s total contribution remains capped at 21.1 million with development costs around 250 thousand incurred to date. Hoskins and council say the project could pay for the bonds and spur Baytown growth as design build terms await next council meeting. O’Neal’s relocation to Bayland Island is noted as not needing further moves.
