Taft Circle fate debated as buyers seek repair plan
Baytown City Council weighs either demolish or renovate the dilapidated Taft Circle Apartment complex after health department deemed it uninhabitable in 2001. Prospective buyer Koltoniuk Development and Texas Funding President Glenn Lee push for a repair agreement with a $125,000 bond and a Oct 16 purchase deadline. If repairs stall, demolition bids may proceed amid asbestos cost estimates of $500,000 to $716,000. Council also considers a $92.9 million city budget and a $6.9 million Baytown Area Water Authority budget with rate increases for residents. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on Channel 16.
