Prairie community reports successful completion of a $4 million fundraising campaign to preserve and restore a pristine landscape. Baytown firefighters city officials and residents gathered at Bicentennial Park for a Sept 11 2001 memorial ceremony marking the 12th anniversary. Battalion Chief Richard Lopez recalled responders faced the biggest incident of their careers as flags were lowered and a memorial statue stood nearby.
Samuel D. Sledge of Lynchburg will address the Baytown City Council to demand removing the word Baytown from a gateway monument. He argues Lynchburg is not Baytown, while Parks Director Scott Johnson notes the statue is outside city limits on Texas Department of Transportation property and greets arrivals at the I 10 and Spur 330 interchange.
Baytown councilman Brandon Capetillo is set to begin a fourth term as District 3 representative after running unopposed in this year’s municipal election. Capetillo, NASA Rohmann Services employee, has served since 2005 after initial appointment and subsequent election. He aims to enhance public safety and safer neighborhoods and retail areas.
