Ranger describes flood rescue for cattle and horses
Ranger Belt recalls a flooded scene where bloated cattle and horses were moved to safety. Rangers on horseback and helicopters helped herd the animals after widespread water covering the ground, highlighting the emotional, challenging nature of the job and Belt’s claim that the badge is the hardest in the state.

Texas Ranger Belt’s decades of service in TSCRA role
The 50-year-old Belt, a Liberty County native, spent years in farming and ranching before earning a Texas Ranger badge. He graduated first from Baytown Police Academy basic training in 1979 and became the nation’s youngest police chief in Dassetta at 18. He later served under Sheriff Eckols in Chambers and Liberty counties, then as Precinct 2 Constable before joining TSCRA. As District 23 Ranger, Belt covers 12 counties and handles rapid, mobility-driven wildlife and livestock theft cases aided by GPS and a public alert system. TSCRA’s cattle theft recoveries, from 2007 to 2008, rose sharply, underscoring the lucrative, evolving nature of livestock crime.
