Amistad Dam loan approved to share costs with Mexico
A $23.75 million loan has been authorized to help Mexico finance its share of the Amistad Dam on the Rio Grande above Del Rio Texas. The Export-Import Bank announced the Alliance for Progress loan to Mexico as part of its $47.5 million payment in the $130 million project. The plan includes two dams 6.35 miles long and 253 feet high, creating a reservoir of 82000 acres and benefiting about 900,000 people on both sides of the border. Repayment over 12 years begins in 1969.

Three oil men die in Lake Charles plane crash
A private plane carrying Emmett Hall 40 pilot and Grigsby McCord vice president Dr Carl Thorsen 36 and Raymond Hayward 31 geologist crashed while attempting to land at a ranch 36 miles southwest of Lake Charles. Hall and Thorsen died en route to hospitals in Sulphur and Beaumont Hayward died at a Beaumont hospital. The trio were en route from New Orleans to the R A Moore ranch where a well was being drilled. Hayward's firm held an interest in the well.

AUSTIN AP state Highway Department officials and several assistant attorneys general planned a conference on revising a legal ruling about highway master plan studies. The attorney general opinion said counties cannot spend funds to finance transportation studies. The 13 counties involved include Potter Randall Dallas Tarrant El Paso Galveston Jefferson Orange Lubbock Webb Cameron Smith and Harris, with total county commitment of 176 755.
