Betsy Bobs Between Storm and Threat in Atlantic

Hurricane Betsy, downgraded to a tropical storm briefly, regained strength and moved westward toward land. Scientists scrapped a plan to seed the storm with silver iodide. The Weather Bureau said Betsy reached 80 mph winds as it churned in the Atlantic about 200 miles north of Puerto Rico and 96 east-southeast of Miami, with shifting position and renewed vigor overnight.

Dominican peace plan ends crisis in Santo Domingo

The Organization of American States secured a full agreement that installs a provisional government within days, paving the way for general elections in nine months. Baytown Cyclist Injured In Collision Near Pool

Baytown boy Garrie D Johnson, 12, was struck by a car driven by Richard Earl Bardwell, 22, as he rode north on Craigmont Street near the McElroy Swimming Pool. Johnson suffered a broken right leg and was taken to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. Bardwell faced negligent collision and improper lookout charges in Judge Barney Edwards Corporation Court.

Equalization Board To Meet Through Thursday

The City Tax Equalization Board, entering a second session of hearings on 1965 assessments, will continue its full schedule of appointments with property owners through Thursday. M. Coe, who heads the city appraisal department, said Wednesday that the board will maintain its busy timetable with property owners.

BricklayersOKs TwoYear Contract for Houston Union

Bricklayers Local 7 and the Houston Chapter of Associated General Contractors ratified a new two year deal, effective Sept. 1. The agreement increases wages and benefits, including a 12.5 cent per hour hospital contribution starting Sept. 1 and wage raises of 10 cents on March 1, 1966 and 15 cents on Sept. 1, 1965. Current pay is $4.55 per hour. Final talks reached at the table. members ratified Monday night and contractors followed Tuesday.

Baytown Lengths Speed Limits Revised On Several Streets

Baytown has revised its city traffic code with new speed limits across multiple streets following a council vote. The changes include 40 mph on Bayway Drive, 46 mph on Tri-City Beach Road, 40 mph on Garth Road, 45 mph on Baker Road, 35 mph on Lee Drive, and 33 mph on Park Street Drive. some zones were not previously regulated. The ordinance also reinstates several existing zones not listed previously, with signs to be erected within a week after enactment.

Vote Absentee On Pay Hikes in Baytown

Absentee voting for the Baytown policemen and firemen referendum on pay raises runs Monday, Sept 3 through Tuesday, Sept 14 at Baytown City Hall. Voters may cast ballots between 3 am and 5 pm daily in Edna Oliver’s office. Edna Oliver is city secretary. Registration In Schools Starts In Baytown 1965 66 Term

About 1,600 students began registration for the 1965 66 school term in Baytown on the first day of classes. Juniors and seniors who attended Robert E. Lee High School were preregistered last spring and will report directly to their homerooms Thursday morning to pick up their schedules and materials.
