Name of Band Leader Considered for Mon Day School
Supporters at Goose Creek CISD considered naming one of two new elementary schools for Dr Antonio Banuelos, a Spanish born band leader and educator who directed the Mexican Boys Band and La Tipica at De Zavala Elementary in Baytown during the 1930s and 1940s. Luciano Salinas spoke in favor, noting Banuelos was hired by Humble Oil in 1935 to teach music to employees’ children before the program moved to De Zavala.

Goose Creek ISD selects design for IMPACT Early College High School
Goose Creek CISD trustees approve a preliminary design for the IMPACT Early College High School building inspired by Judson Early College Academy in Live Oak. The vacant Market Street site sits east of Lee High School between a church and Bicentennial Park with Memorial Stadium parking behind the site. PBE Architects will reuse a prior design to reduce cost and time. The school will admit about 100 freshmen yearly, totaling roughly 400 students, with some classes at Lee College. A wide sidewalk will connect the campus to Lee College across Bicentennial Park.
