In Harris County, Baytown shows rising early voter counts with 940 on day one and 1,465 at a peak last week. By midweek over 10,000 ballots have been cast in Mockingbird Room, Baytown Community Center as Judi Craig forecasts about 16,000 total early voters this year.
The Baytown Nature Center resumes operations Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. hours adjusted after Hurricane Ike, with November hours 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. after daylight saving ends. Ike submerged the center under twelve feet of water, uprooting trees and damaging piers and facilities. Almost all facilities reopen. one fishing pier remains. Gator Hole and the ExxonMobil Children’s Discovery Area are gone for now.
