A white truck driver backed through a gasoline pump at a North Highway 146 convenience store around 2 p.m. Wednesday, fleeing after about 12000 in damage. A Chevy Trailblazer, a 1993 GMC, and two youths linked to a burglary near East Humble were reported or apprehended in related incidents.
Police report two motel area burglaries with thefts of about 1700 dollars from a vehicle at Decker Drive and 1500 dollars from a vehicle in the South Alexander area. A separate domestic incident in the 900 block of Northwood involving a boyfriend assaulting a woman on October 9 is under investigation.
Police were called to Ross S. Sterling High School on Wednesday to take an 11th grade student into custody after he was found in possession of marijuana.
Police were notified about checks totaling about 2250 passed at a truck stop in the 1800 block of Interstate 10. The crimes occurred between January and October but were reported on Wednesday.
The Robert E. Lee Interact Club hosts a free car wash at Wal-Mart from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise scholarship money and aid Hurricane Ike victims. Donations are welcome and Rotary sponsors support the event led by Interact Club president Kristee Johnson.
Baytown reports over 515000 cubic yards of hurricane debris collected and sets October 31 as final curbside debris pickup. Final contractor pass looms the week of November 3 with debris separated into four categories, curbside only, within right of way, and hazardous limbs rules. After November 7 heavy trash operations resume. residents must dispose of materials themselves if beyond that date.

Local band The Coastliners organize two benefit events to aid Ike survivors. A Oct 25 golf and concert at Goose Creek Country Club Baytown supports Galveston Island recovery while proceeds help Goose Creek flood and damage repairs. A Nov 1 Moody Gardens Galveston concert with The Beach Boys tribute The Coastliners follows, with partial ticket proceeds to Galveston United Way and Red Cross.
