Army Corps pitches 14-foot dunes for Houston coastal shield
The Army Corps of Engineers advances a 32 billion plan featuring 44 miles of natural sand dunes and floodgates from High Island to San Luis Pass to protect Houston and Galveston from hurricane surge. The dune system, aimed at reducing flood risk, faces cost questions and variable protection levels versus levee options. The Corps plans a final coastal barrier proposal for Congress in 2021.

Two vehicles burglarized in the 7200 block of Garth Road Wednesday night. About 2 a.m. Thursday two Bluetooth speakers were stolen from a vehicle in the 3100 block of Decker Drive. A vehicle burglary occurred in the 6900 block of North Main Street Wednesday night. Clothing stolen from a vehicle in the 7500 block of Decker Drive about 5 a.m. Thursday.
