Baytown rider Thomas Bordelon offers riding lessons to Mason LeBlanc as Bordelon prepares for the 2008 Grand National Championship set for next Saturday and Sunday.
After discovering a hive years ago a Baytown resident decided to raise and keep bees. The hobby continues, highlighting urban apiculture and its rewards, challenges, and safety considerations for city residents seeking pollinator support.

Baytown voters may vote 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. Oct 20 24 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct 25 1 6 p.m. Oct 26 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct 27 31. Eddie Davis, once a Goose Creek School District pupil in Cedar Bayou Junior and GATE programs, has earned a Doctor of Philosophy Degree. Teachers Donna Britt and Elsa Kleiman recall his drive, focus, and resilience despite multiple physical challenges.
Baytown marks its annual Day of Caring with Saturday events that honor volunteers and supporters who strengthen the city year round. Readers can find fuller stories on pages A8 and A9.
Baytown Little Theater opens Seussical the Musical blending Dr. Seuss characters with a child friendly score. The show, directed by Patti Meiners, features Brian and Anne Huysman performing the score and invites families to enjoy a whimsical set and themes that resonate with both children and adults.
About 600 people attended a four hour relief gathering organized by Somebody Cares America at Oak Island, with 150 volunteers from a Houston linked network. The event offered inflatable play areas, barbecue, and a Pray Station as residents of Chambers County seek respite and recovery after Hurricane Ike. Local families, including Mary Flores and her children Jasmine and Nicholas, found the gathering a hopeful distraction from the damage and anxieties of the storm recovery. The effort, led by Rev. Charles Burchett, aims to support recovery across Orange Jefferson and Chambers counties with ongoing two year relief commitments.
