VW Tiguan drives with strong brakes and sporty torque
The Tiguan delivers 207 ft lb of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm, compares to 161 ft lb at 4,200 rpm in the 166 hp CR-V. A six speed automatic with programmable shift points is standard, manual transmission available. Braking is strong, ride is stiff with 16 inch tires, minor interior annoyances include a rattling sun visor and small dashboard vents. Safety gear is largely standard with optional rear side airbags. A May NHTSA recall cites engine surge risk with AC on and requires software updates.
