Dairy Expert Warns Of Production Drop In Milk Shortage Era
Dairy expert Owen Richards of the American Dairy Association warns that milk production per capita in the United States has fallen to the lowest level in at least 20 years. He cites 1950 and 1951 outputs and projects a further drop due to drought, with population growth and farm labor declines worsening the dairy industry's economic challenges. The piece notes Census figures on farm populations and farm labor losses, alongside shifts from dairy to beef and mechanization.
