Emergency-Armed Forces Take Local Doctors Off Duty
Irate La Porte Bayshore residents led by Funeral Director Art Simpson circulate a petition to the secretary of defense and naval personnel demanding cancellation or deferral of Dr Miller and calls for Drs Brown and Mack to be spared from active duty. Baytown faces similar risk with at least 12 doctors potentially inducted. With two doctors active and Dr Mack inactive due to a spinal fracture, the area contends the medical drain would be catastrophic, endangering 1,500 La Porte residents reliant on three local physicians.
