Lee College Board of Regents seeks legislative help after a city impact fee exceeding 35000 raises questions of Texas law. Chair Don Coffey aims to work with Rep. Wayne Smith and Sen. John Whitmire to clarify if public schools are exempt from impact fees or to draft a specific exemption for community colleges. The issue hinges on State SB883 and how it treats school districts and public junior colleges regarding water and sewer charges.
Javier Chavez of GCM Band earns a spot in the Texas All-State Jazz Band for 2008, performing February 16 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. He advanced through district region and area auditions among more than 55,000 Texas students, with TMEA backing.
The Baytown Symphony Orchestra and Baytown Community Chorus present their annual holiday concert at Grace Methodist Church sanctuary 304 N. Pruett St. on Dec 4 at 7 30 p m. Admission is free though donations are appreciated and seating is limited to about a thousand. attendees are urged to arrive early for parking and seating. The program opens with Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite I, a 1892 ballet prelude.
Historic Goose Creek Association hosts Christmas on Texas Avenue Street Festival December 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Texas Avenue closure from Oak Tree to Commerce Street, security by Harris County Constable Ken Jones, about 60 vendors selling jewelry furniture antiques crafts and foods, free admission, Santa visits, and multiple musical acts led by Britt Ennis of The Posse plus The Coastliners and Josh Fey Band.
The Baytown Junior League invites applications for Christmas toys from Goodfellows at the Baytown Community Center today 4 to 8 PM. Additional application dates are December 2 and December 4 from 9 AM to 2 PM. Tax free donations may be sent to Goodfellows PO Box 425 Baytown TX 77522.
