Thompson led officers to the murder weapon and confessed after sheriff Keen questioned him in his office. Gillum, a World War II Navy veteran and former Esso shipping clerk, was found shot in a Houston greenhouse driveway.
City attorney George Chandler denied that laborer JFacit. Davis was injured on the Horace Mann sewer project. Davis sued for 57,000 in actual and medical damages claiming serious and permanent injuries from a pipe incident. Grantham said no accident occurred and Davis was sent to a doctor after complaining of pain. No trial date set.
Rev Karl Bracker of St Paul's Lutheran church faces entry barriers as West Main is closed for intersection work by F and C Engineering Co. A detour exists via Durain Ferry Road to reach the church and nearby homes, with Bracker noting motorists are on their own after detour. Separately, Rev Ralphie Salzmann of the Assembly of God discusses moving into a former Ku Klux Klan mortuary building once used 28 years ago in San Pedro California.
A C-119 Flying Boxcar with 16 aboard crashed and burned after one engine failed during weather maneuvers in Alaska. Eight died, eight survived, including Major Severance and Capt. W. Richards. The plane, part of Operation Warm Wing, was the fourth such loss in 11 days, prompting air force grounding pending investigations. Farmer E E Hawthorne, who aided survivors, described approaching flames and pulling six from wreckage.
In Tokyo on November 18, the U S Far East Air Force said it will not ground its C 119 Flying Boxcars unless ordered by Washington. Investigations into Korea war air crash that killed 44 found no dangerous mechanical flaws. Spokesman said the planes have operated in Korea with satisfactory results and no more mishaps than other transport aircraft, despite earlier vibrations that tailed their reputation.
