Sue Tarver and her husband Chuck nearly fainted after she won a $1 million prize on a scratch off purchased at a Chevron gas station on Garth Road near Interstate 10 in Baytown. Sue described tears, disbelief, and gratitude as the symbols matched to the million dollar prize.
Three new retail shops have opened along Baytown's historic Texas Avenue joining three food and drink spots that opened last year. A new hair salon and a refreshed building add to the retail push as owners hope holiday shoppers boost investment in the avenue.
Threads Vintage Emporium opened in April at 104 West Texas Avenue. Owner Retro Sandy brings years of retail experience after moving to town.
Harris County will hear public comments at 5 30 p m Monday at the Crosby Community Center on proposed county rules governing game rooms. Precinct 2 Commissioner Jack Morman said the hearing should be informative and well attended. The rules require owner and operator disclosure and visible machines, prohibit locked doors, and aim to regulate compliant venues while shutting down noncompliant ones. Exemptions apply to game rooms inside food and beverage businesses. New rooms cannot be within 1500 feet of schools, places of worship, or residential areas unless food sales exceed 50 percent.
The Lee High Celebrities present a fall festival at Lee Field House parking lot 1809 Market St Baytown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rain or shine. Over 20 vendors sell wreaths candles clothing and jewelry with children’s booths offering face painting temporary tats and more. Proceeds support the dance team for costumes travel meals and year end show.
Roseland Park completes restoration of Southern Pacific Locomotive No. 895 after five weeks and a $45,000 refurbish by Valu Industrial Services. The 100 year old train, once a steam engine, now features a four coat polyurethane finish and new nose details, with an expected 10 year protection. The locomotive has graced Roseland Park since 1957 after donation by Southern Pacific following a 1956 request by Baytown Key Club.
