Ike relief fundraiser kicks off with hamburger lunch

Art League opens November exhibits Baytown invites public view of member art

The Art League of Baytown displays member art during November with James D. Avant featured as Artist of the Month at Sterling Municipal Library. Avant’s painting Crossing the Buffalo portrays a cowboy roping a longhorn in the Buffalo River and won third place and People's Choice at the San Jacinto Art Show in Deer Park. He travels nationwide for photography and seeks to preserve memories of the countryside through his work.

Ike recovery slow after Ike devastates Oak Island

Eight weeks after Hurricane Ike Oak Island residents live in tents with few shelters as 80 percent of the 350 homes were destroyed. Baytown Kiwanis Club and neighbors donate clothes food and heaters while volunteers continue debris removal and provide meals in the stricken community.
