Clear Skies Boost Air Raids on VC and Saigon Fight
In clear skies American warplanes intensified strikes on North Viet Nam and ground clashes surged in the south. Reports say 36 enemy dead in major operations near Saigon and advances by U.S. forces including the 1st Cavalry with 37 percent confirmed enemy deaths in hard mountain fighting. Air sorties totaled 122 against Hanoi Hai Phong and near the southern panhandle, targeting rail lines, anti-aircraft sites, storage and staging areas, and a surface to air missile site. The 1st Infantry and other units reported fatalities while a U.S. Navy Skyhawk was shot down and listed missing.
