With less than a week to the November 7 ballot, residents report opposing group Baytown Citizens for Property Rights using a phone bank to spread claims. The proposed ban by Smoke Free Baytown Coalition would prohibit smoking in public venues, while critics say the campaign may mislead voters about home smoking rules. James Haarmeyer of the opposing group says no paid telemarketing has begun, though some calling has occurred. Don Coffey, an observer, confirms receiving a telemarketing-style inquiry about the ordinance. The issue remains contentious as ballots approach.
