Brian Hawthorne, a retired DPS Trooper and husband of Chambers County Clerk Heather Hawthorne, won the Chambers County sheriff race by about four to one over Monroe Kreuzer Jr. with more than 5 000 votes. He led early voting 2 185 to 479 and dominated most precincts, save Kreuzer’s Anahuac hometown tally. Hawthorne pledged to continue the new era of pride and leadership.
Heather Plant wins multiple top prizes including Grand Champion Steer Lamb Goat and Rabbits with other entries in swine turkey broilers welding recreation craft horticulture food and photography earning a broad showcase of youth talent at this year’s fair alongside Brooke Faries Colson Shepherd John Walls and several other 4 H and FFA members securing reserve titles.
Incumbent Denise Hutter defeated Robin Sudberry-Boles to retain the Chambers County Tax Assessors post. Sworn in three months ago after Margie Henry's retirement, Hutter credited her team and supporters for the victory as early voting trends held through election night.
Chambers County authorities anticipate filing charges against the young man who piloted the boat involved in a Memorial Day weekend accident that killed 24-year-old Baytown man Tyler Darrow Enderli and seriously injured a young woman. The incident occurred about 5 p.m. Sunday in an unnamed bayou south of Hugo Point boat ramp with alcohol, speed and recklessness cited as probable factors.
The National Weather Service projects four to eight tropical cyclones forming along the Atlantic this season and more than a dozen storms in total. For many, storms bring inconvenience, but others face life changing impacts as communities rebuild after past hurricanes.
