Baytown shows oil activity as Texas Company brings in a well on city land used previously as a dumping ground. Mineral rights stayed with the seller, and the well must be pumped rather than flowing. Westmoreland reports the well came in at 5 am Monday and pumping should begin soon.
New York County Grand Jury returned a 60 count information against gambler Frank Erickson, stemming from a Senate inquiry into gambling and bribery. One conspiracy count and 59 bookmaking counts allege bets totaling near 100,000 over 20 years. Co conspirator Warold Richards, Erickson's bookkeeper, named but jailed as a material witness. The charges claim illegal agreement to engage in bookmaking and related acts.
The Houston Anti Tuberculosis League mobile X ray unit will be in Highlands from 2 to 5 pm tomorrow in front of the Highlands Variety Store offering free chest X rays for residents age five and up. Today the unit was at General Tire and Mexican Recreation Hall as part of a three week health drive sponsored by Baytown Women’s Service League and Baytown Junior Chamber of Commerce with local officials’ support.

Delegates at the Texas Methodist Conference in Houston voted to form a Houston Methodist District likely dividing into East and West Houston with Baytown and East Harris County in one area. Charles Fay of Bigtown was chosen as a new minister among 26 in the large class and will serve two to three years before full approval.
