Baytown Mayor outlines budget gaps and city priorities
Baytown faces a deficit projected between 1.5 and 2.6 million as special meetings focus on sewer capacity and program cuts. Mundinger notes rising costs for health care, gasoline, lumber, and cars, and pushes a Neighborhood Traffic and Crime Control unit plus televised council meetings to boost oversight and safety. He expects no tax increase but anticipates an Oct 1 sales tax rise and contemplates a future quarter-cent tax for police or fire services, while seeking to expand enterprise zones and possibly ease permitting to spur development. The mayor urges communal support to tackle these fiscal and urban challenges.
