Memorial Day weekend toll rises across Texas roads

An 18 year old Huffman man died when his northbound car struck a telephone pole on Farm Road 2100 while attempting to pass another vehicle. Several other fatal crashes across Texas over the Memorial Day weekend claimed multiple lives including a Bowie man on Farm Road 1702 and Comanche County rider on State Highway 36.

Sterling High School Graduates 206 at 506 Senior Honors

Sterling High School awarded 206 graduates, part of 506 seniors honored at Ross Sterling graduation in RSS Auditorium. The ceremony included 250000 in scholarships and numerous special honors and named scholarship recipients from Lee College Foundation, Baytown Rotary, and other groups.

Rains stalk Atlantic Coast in deadly flood sweep

The storm system driving heavy rains moved from Oklahoma into the Atlantic states, causing flash floods that drowned a teen and displaced about 100 in North Carolina. Tornadoes, six inch rainfall, and flood threats rippled into West Virginia, Florida, and New York as Oklahoma’s toll rose to 12.

Reagan plans emergency U S missiles to Saudi Arabia

The United States rushes 400 Stinger missiles and two KC-10 tankers to Saudi Arabia to bolster Gulf oil shipments defenses. Two hundred launchers with Stingers and 206 replacement missiles are due, to be deployed at Ras Tanura and around key sites as F-15s extend escort and air patrols.

Decreasing cloudiness is forecast for Tuesday afternoon with sunny skies by Wednesday. Daytime temperatures rise to mid-80s through Wednesday, and nights stay fair and cool with lows near 50s. A record high of 93 and a low of 63 were observed from Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Baytown School District Calendar and Graduation Cancellations

Baytown students face a June start for summer classes at Robert E. Lee High School with sessions running June 6 to July 20 and fall classes resuming August 27. Teacher in service is August 20 to 24. Graduation plans shift for Ross S. Sterling and Robert E. Lee seniors due to rain, with REL ceremonies at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Stallworth Stadium or REL auditorium if rain. St. Joseph’s School finishes classes Tuesday for 290 students after eighth-grade commencements on May 21.
