Beaumont Meet Showcases Young Track Stars and Baseball Prospects
The Beaumont gathering featured standout high school runners Robert Gonzales Dwight Harrison and Willie Black facing collegiate competitors, with Waverly Thomas of Lamar Tech dominating several events. Texas A&d coach Kenneth Helley pursued Dwight Harrison for a scholarship as McMurray’s Fred Fox urged him to consider the program. Baseball notes include tryouts for the Boston Red Sox at San Jacinto College and the NY Mets camp at Rockdale, with Norman Montgomery and Ricky Burch named 1967 baseball captions for leadership.
