After winning Region 3 Barbers Hill softball awaits Sunday to learn their Class 3A State Tournament opening opponent. The Barbers Hill squad earned the regional title and now awaits the pairing for the state event.
The Houston Astros drop a fourth straight game as they begin a road series with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The defeat extends Houston’s skid while Pittsburgh takes the series opener on their home field.

Baytown will conduct a recount of the May 13 District 5 City Council election Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber of City Hall. Incumbent Ronnie Anderson, who lost to Lynn A. Caskey II by seven votes, filed a petition recount citing margins under 10 percent of Caskey’s votes and total votes under 1,000. City Clerk Lorri Coody, recount supervisor, certified the petition.
Baytown City Council members discussed potential appointees for two newly approved sales tax districts, Crime Control and Fire and Emergency Services, and will continue the discussion at a June 8 workshop. Voters authorized one eighth of a cent taxes, each district expected to raise about 750000 dollars annually for five years, with temporary council members serving as initial boards and options under state law to appoint permanent members.
