Survivor credits early skin cancer detection at Houston Methodist
Rick Hodge, 65, credits a Parents magazine article from over 30 years ago with prompting a dermatologist biopsy that found basal cell carcinoma on his shoulder. After a later diagnosis of melanoma in 2009, caught early, he underwent surgery with a skin graft and has since remained cancer-free under dermatologist Dr. Conner Chan, with ongoing checkups every three to six months. The doctors emphasize sun protection and avoiding indoor tanning, noting millions treated for nonmelanoma skin cancer annually and over ten thousand melanoma deaths expected in 2016. Call 281-428-2273 for more information.
