Baytown officials and BHPA members kicked off a groundbreaking at Republic of Texas Plaza Park for a post and beam barn between the 1910 Brown-McKay Farmhouse and Wooster Schoolhouse. The barn will be a living museum and community building, tying to the theme From the Rice Fields to the Oil Fields.
Baytown teens from the Youth Advisory Commission presented to Council Chambers about three years of impact. They foster youth involvement in city government, leadership through volunteer work, and cultural understanding. City Council increased the initial taxicab fare from $2 to $2.50 for the first fifth of a mile and kept 40 cents for each additional mile after comparing Baytown rates with Pasadena and Houston. The change, effective immediately, aligns Baytown with nearby cities and follows a brief taxi drivers’ drive for relief amid rising gas prices.
