Baytown weighs nonemergency ambulance expansion plan

Baytown officials propose expanding city EMS to handle non emergency transports, arguing $250 000 annual revenue justifies a first year cost of $854 000 for personnel and equipment while future years drop to about $657 000. Bay Star Ambulance and two other private firms counter that city paramedics and costly gear inflate bids. Charles Bryan warns private operators fear city ordinances and market barriers. Galveston previously allowed non emergency transfers but limited where private ambulances could operate.

Baytown weighs expansion of nonemergency EMS transport

Baytown may extend emergency medical services to nonemergency transports. Emerald Medical Services on North Alexander Drive runs four trucks and has served Baytown since 1997. Alliance Ambulance on Ashleyville Road operates in Houston Clear Lake Baytown Kumble and West Houston with two ambulances since the mid 1990s. Bay Star Ambulance on West Sterling Avenue runs one paramedic ambulance basic EMTs and a wheelchair van, serving Baytown since the late 1990s.

Crosby ISD approves $45 million bond in tight Crosby vote

Crosby voters approved the district's largest bond, 714 for to 611 against, in a turnout of about 10.3 percent of 11,800 registered. Superintendent Don Hendrix said work begins with Southwest Securities and Crew Architects as rates hover near 30 year lows. Projects include $19 million for Crosby High School, $9.1 million for Drew Intermediate, and $4 million for Crosby Middle School renovations.

Deadly chase ends with suspect suicide in Wal-Mart spillover

A high speed pursuit from I 10 east of Anahuac to a Baytown Wal-Mart ended when the driver, a green pickup owner wanted on a federal drug warrant, shot a store clerk and then killed himself in the women's dressing area. The chase reached 100 mph before the suspect exited and opened fire on attempting troopers.
