A report to the American Bacteriologists Society announced subtilin a non deug for fighting meningitis and tuberculosis. Dr A J Sane of the University of California said it clears streptococcal throat infections in 10 minutes on chick embryos and may rival penicillin though safety in humans is untested. If safe it could aid patients unable to take penicillin or with penicillin resistance, but toxic effects remain possible.
