Street maintenance tax gains partial support amid debate
The city plans a 1 percent street maintenance tax yielding about $1.5 million annually, with a 7.75 percent existing rate and potential to rise to 8.25 percent. Supporters led by Mayor Pete Alfaro push the measure while opponents cite lack of public input and concerns about future state tax hikes. City Council will decide allocations, prioritizing crack sealing, concrete repairs, and road rehabilitation over four years, with no residential-only restrictions.
