California man dies after rain slick Crosby Lynch Road crash

A near Highlands California man identified only by a county book died after a collision on Crosby Lynch Road when rain slicked pavement caused his car to skid across the road. Leroy Coffey Jr. of Highlands was driving another car that struck the first vehicle. Coffey, recently discharged from the Army, said he remembered nothing of the accident. Witnesses described a skull injury and multiple fractures to the other driver, a 61 year old retiree whose name was not released. Investigators noted the rain and road conditions as factors and said traffic speed was 35 to 40 mph. The deceased reportedly left behind bank accounts and luggage, with no stated occupation.
