Voters elected two new faces to Baytown City Council and authorized a street sales tax. David McCartney defeated District 6 incumbent Sammy Mahan by 56 percent while District 4 residents chose Terry Sain as their next councilman. The McCartney Mahan race was close with strong turnout.
The Goose Creek board of trustees will gain two new members next year after an unofficial election. Ken Martin, a Lakewood resident and DuPont engineer in La Porte, defeated incumbent Weston Cotten for District 3 with 264 votes to 123, a wide margin pending canvass.
Alma Jeannette Ward Bascum E Meadows report on a man known as the gator guy, whose collection of alligators at Robert Campbell’s home attracts attention while contributing to a blend of wildlife and fashion interests in the community.
A clear stretch brings less humidity and abundant sun across the day with a high near 84 and a low around 63. Strong daytime brightness returns statewide, easing mugginess as outdoor plans proceed. Light winds accompany the dry conditions.

City and Klotz Associates plan a 1.6 million fiber optic upgrade to sync North Main from Texas Ave to Cedar Bayou Lynchburg Rd and Alexander from Texas Ave to I 146. The project replaces copper with fiber, upgrades 26 heads to LED, and includes buried sensor work to align signals with traffic flow. About 80 percent of the cost is grant funded.
