The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its 16th annual Food Drive to Help Stamp Out Hunger. Baytown residents are asked to place non-perishable items at their mailbox before the carrier arrives. Include canned soup juice pasta canned vegetables cereal and rice. Baytown residents vote today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on a one quarter of one cent street sales tax. The measure, a street maintenance tax, was initially adopted earlier in the process.
Voters are reminded of today’s elections including a municipal street maintenance sales tax renewal for Baytown to fund road rehabilitation. The measure is expected to raise about $2 million annually if approved. Districts 4 and 6 vote for Baytown City Council, and District 3 for Goose Creek school board. Weston Cotten seeks re election against Ken Martin.
A Baytown bank robber entered the Wachovia Bank at 4921 Garth Road at 9 30 a m Friday and handed a teller a note demanding money. The teller complied and the suspect fled in a red 1994 Chevy pickup with Texas plate STH HSO. No injuries were reported and police noted the incident followed standard procedures to protect lives.
The second Castle Fun Center resurrection meeting drew newcomers including 11 year old Meagan Briggs and Cedar Bayou Junior student. Meagan and her mother Sylvia joined to back a safe, affordable youth hub, noting current mall costs and idle time for local teens.
The Lee College commencement filled the Sports Arena with graduates earning over 800 associates degrees and certificates. The Baytown Concert Band played Pomp and Circumstance as faculty processed and attendees watched the ceremony.
