End of 2011 Arson Awareness Week Faces Dire Fire Danger
Harris Chambers and other area counties remain in severe fire danger with burn bans in place. Chambers County is in high outdoor burning danger, says emergency management coordinator Ryan Holzaepfel. About 210 Texas counties are under burn bans as Gov. Perry declared disaster declarations. The historic season has already claimed a Texas firefighter’s life, and extremely dry conditions heighten risk from grasses to woodlands. Residents are urged not to discard cigarettes or create sparks near vegetation along roads.

Baytown Youth Fair pageant kicks off tomorrow bright
The Baytown Youth Fair and Livestock Show runs into next week with events starting with Rodeo Queen and Toddler pageants tomorrow. Monday features livestock shows, rabbit and poultry displays, and indoor judging, followed by goat and lamb shows Tuesday and swine and ag mechanics on Wednesday. Pirates Bay Waterpark Opens Saturday for 2nd Season
Pirates Bay Waterpark opens this Saturday at 11 a.m. and runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday only through June 4 before switching to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The park at 5300 East Road features a lazy river, slides, and a sloped entry pool. Admission is 17 for 48 inches or taller, 12 for shorter, with discounts after 4 p.m. Seasonal and group rates apply.
